CALCINED CLAYS
To produce in cement Plants, new SCMs, Calcined Clay (CC) type, at appropriate temperatures and aerobic conditions, and further minimize their current contribution to Global Warming, the Portland clinker/CC ratio must be as low as possible so that the resulting new Portland-based blend cements are more eco-efficient and environmentally friendly than those currently manufactured, without compromising their pozzolanic activity, mechanical strength, volume stability, or durability consistent with their respective construction purposes. Furthermore, their manufacture is more economical the higher the quality of the matrix clay, as its replacement percentages with Portland clinker can be higher. This quality is based much more and better on its final Al2O3r– (%) content after proper thermal activation than on its kaolinite (%) content.
The Quality Control of each batch of CC produced at the cement Plant is also verified in a short period of time, determining its Al2O3r– (%) content using the R. Talero method, which also significantly shortens the start date for amortizing the CAPEX required to manufacture them. On the other hand, the reactive silica (SiO2r– (%)) (which is not influential, transcendent or significant for the high, early and rapid pozzolanic activity from its Al2O3r– (%) content origin, in addition to being specific, initiated and developed at the same time) is determined by the UNE 80225:2012 standard. This will be further detailed in the Section “Research and Achievements” and in the Section “Process Images” where some specific details of manufacturing calcined clays in cement Plants, their quality control and chemical verification, and their PC/CC blended cements are presented.
CEMENTS
In order to design, dose and manufacture said standardized PC/CC blend cements, with and without limestone filler (LF) and/or other MCSs, as well as expansive cements and non-shrinkage cements, whose setting regulator amount (natural gypsum stone) in accordance with the Al2O3r– (%) content of the CC and the C3A (%) content of the PC, must be determined by means of 2 physical tests and one mechanical test because they are much more significant than the conduction calorimetry test.
CONCRETE, MORTAR, GUNITE, PASTES, GROUTS, AND PRECAST
To design, proportion, and manufacture their corresponding concretes, mortars, and gunite, both conventional and special (self-compacting microconcrete or not), as well as pastes, grouts, and precast concrete.
This also makes it possible to manufacture these CAs for one (less or not at all likely) or for several ready-mix concrete plants (more likely).
